Scope of Practice Influences on Workforce, Workplace, and Outcomes of Care

The Institute of Medicine’s groundbreaking report, The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health, recommends removing scope of practice barriers so that advanced practice registered nurses are be able to practice to the full extent of their education and training. This research project will examine whether loosening state restrictions on scope of practice for nurse practitioners affects cost; quality or access to care; brings more nurse practitioners into the state; and the role organizations play in interpreting regulations. The team is led by Alex Hoyt, MS, PhD(c).
