2012 INQRI National Conference

INQRI held a national meeting to showcase and discuss the results of the research funded under this initiative on April 26-27, 2012 in Washington, D.C.

The papers presented at the meeting will be published in April, 2013 in a special supplement of Medical Care. Since INQRI grantees have been presenting project findings through publication of their studies in peer-reviewed journals, program leaders adopted a different model for the national conference and special edition. A select group of INQRI grantees used their findings as the basis for discussions about the relationship between their research and trends in interdisciplinary collaboration, methodology and implementation science, quality measurement, dissemination and implementation, and the business case for nursing. These authors have been encouraged to write papers which, in addition to summarizing results, provide additional depth about the implications of their results for health policy, quality improvement, and translation sciences. The INQRI leadership team has written an introductory article for this collection which describes the scientific advances in understanding relationships between nursing and quality by comparing literature published in 2004 (the year prior to INQRI’s launch) and 2009 (five years after INQRI was established).

We were delighted that Ezekiel Emanuel, globally renowned bioethicist, served as the keynote speaker for this exciting event. Dr. Emanuel shared his thoughts about advancing what we know about nursing's critical role in the current and evolving health care system. Sue Hassmiller, RWJF's senior advisor for nursing and the lead of the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action joined us to describe INQRI's legacy in the future of nursing.
